Finnish specialities

Hey everybody !
I tried two Finnish specialities this week :
-karjalanpiirakka
-runebergin torttu

The karjalanpiirakka is great ! It's made with rice porridge inside, but it's like a biscuit. We must spread butter mixed with egg above. Maybe one day, I will can make some with Lotta's grandmother, but it's very difficult to do.

The runebergin torttu is very good ! I already try it in a coffee, and I made some with Home economics. They are very famous in Finland. Inside, you can find fruit jelly, but not all the time.  The frosting is composed with only sugar, so it is very caloric ! And the point in the middle is jam. It's not a very difficult recipe. The next Sunday, it is the birthday of a famous Finnish poet (is called Johan Ludving Runeberg), so we must to cook or buy these sweets !

P.S: In Finland, they use some cups for made the recipe, like in America.

My ski day !

Hello !
The last Sunday (21/01), we went to Talma to ski ! Talma is a set of ski runs but not big enough to be a ski resort, so you must to use the ski lifts (here, the ski-tow) every time. We skied during 4 hours, and we saw the sun set.
In my host family, they all had their own skis. So we only rented my equipment. We made a break, and I drank a divine hot chocolate. It was a very good day.

P.S : The morning, I ate a Finnish bread : it was very delicious !

The sauna...

Hey everybody !
Saturday, Lotta and me went to Helsinki, to see an art exhibition. After that, we went shopping.
Then the evening, I tried... the sauna ! With Lotta's mum. In Finland, most people have got a sauna in their bathroom. Inside, the temperature is between 70 and 80°C. After, you can go... outside, in the snow !! At the beginning, before my travel, I didn't want, but when my host mother asked it to me, I accepted because I want to discover Finnish customs. IT WAS REALLY GREAT ! I was not even cold, while the outside temperature was below -5°C !!!

Opening of the PoP-Up CaFé !

Hello everybody !
Today, the PoP-Up CaFé opened ! It is a little shop, where you can buy some food like cakes, pizzas... This week is The Chocolate week, and there will be The Italian week... The sellers are students. I tried a part of a chocolate cake (thanks Aino), and it was very good ! During Home economics, you can make the food for the PoP-Up CaFé. At 12.00, there was a small party to celebrate the opening. Manisha and Minttu made a speech and Manisha cut the red ribbon !

Ice skating at school !

Hey everybody !
Today, I tried ice skating with Salla, more precisely with classes 9A and 9B. We must to walk to go to ice rink (it is next to the school). I met Flaurelle, a girl who speak French very well, with a very good accent. She understands everything I say.
Ice skating was a very good experience !! It was my first time, but I love this sport. I fell only once ! The girls did some games and the boys played ice hockey.

Sport and Home economics...

Hi everybody !
Tuesday was a very good day ! The morning, I had sport with Salla and Minttu, and I met other girls. In Finland, the gymnasium is separated in two by a curtain : the girls on one side and the boys of other. We also have a woman teacher and the boys have a man teacher. We played basketball.

Later, I had Home economics (in France, this subject doesn't exist). We must to cook. I met Rita (she came in France during 1 week this year), and we made a cake together (our cake had got a problem : we had forgotten one egg !). After, we laid the table. We cooked with 2 boys and they made some cookies. We are only 11 students. Then, we must to write our opinion of the cake in a paper. This subject is so funny !

Today, we finished our cake. It was very beautiful and delicious !

P.S : Wednesday, during the lunch, we heard music in the corridor. The students began to dance, and we followed the move. It was a Finnish dance. It was so cool !

My first day at school !

Hello !
Today was my first day at Havukosken koulu. We made Lou's timetable and mine. And... I saw my Finnish friends !!! Salla, Manisha, Eliina and Iina ! We also met Minttu. They gave us a tour of the school. We ate the lunch at 10.45, because in Finland, they eat 5 times a day !! After, we made our bus cards (Lou and me think : they are so beautiful !xD). Finally, we went back home at 15.30.

Hello, Finland !

Hi everybody !
Saturday morning, I took the plane to go to Paris with AirFrance (I am with Lou and Mr Maillard, because Mme De La Combe was sick), and after, to go to Vantaa (with Finnair), in Finland !

I arrived Saturday evening. The snow is everywhere ! My penfriend and my host family are nice. Toma, (Lotta's little brother) made pipari (gingerbread in English, and they are delicious !) :

After, the Sunday, we went to the market, and we bought Finnish apples. Then, we went to the garden, to make a snowman !

And, after made our beautiful snowman, we went to walk with Nuka (one of my host family's dog). Next to the house, there is a river, and it is frozen !

The evening, we went to Helsinki (the capital of Finland). We saw a light show called "Lux". I liked.
